I really enjoy reading my reviews on GoodReads and a reader called Michael recently posed an interesting question:
“It’s nice to see a female (why is there a lack of thrillers written by women within Australia?) can write a thriller just as exciting as something written by Riley.”
Good question! Australia has Kathryn Fox and wonderful female psychological thriller authors like Jaye Ford as well as great female detective-based crime fiction authors like Kathrine Howell, but when it comes to action/conspiracy/techno thrillers few women seem to write this sub-genre, and this is not just from within Australia. For me, Tess Gerritsen in the USA stands out as an exceptional thriller author with strong female central characters, but thinking about it, the majority of authors I love to read are male: James Rollins, Lee Child, Michael Connelly, Clive Cussler and so on.
All I know is that I love the fast pace, action, adventure and high stakes of thrillers and that’s why I write them, and I hope that, by creating engaging, resilient and resourceful female central characters, both sexes will read and love this genre as much as I do.
