It’s time to celebrate some of the lovely reviews of Monty & Me on GoodReads. I’m especially fond of this review from Amanda and I’d love to share it with you:
I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this book, which was clearly written by a very experienced dog owner. I have two Labradors (called Honey & Daisy) and I could certainly identify & appreciate certain doggy habits, such as wee mail, as my own two dogs display similar behaviour. I have long since thought that dogs have far more sense and intelligence that we give them credit for and this book confirms it. I loved the part where the animals were talking to each other irrespective of species. I also loved the fact that Monty could read and use the computer.
This book is well written and well structured. The story flows well and the chapters are written from two different points of view- some chapters are written from an overview of Rose’s case & subsequent investigations and other chapters were narrated by Monty. This two tier story telling really did work.
Monty & Me could best be described as a cozy mystery in that it is still a book about a crime but there is little gratuitous violence and nothing in there to make you feel uncomfortable. The story itself is full of drama, twists, turns and the occasional red herring but there is also some humour in Monty & Me which I find refreshing. Reading this
The characters are well written and well defined. I easily took to the characters of Monty (what isn’t to love about him) and Rose, who I felt sorry for as she was used as a scapegoat on more than one occasion.
I shall be amazed if the television rights to the Monty & Me series are not snapped up and Monty appears on a television screen near you shortly. This series would be perfect Sunday afternoon viewing.
Thank you so much Amanda!
