I will be in conversation with Carmel Shute, Founder of ‘Sisters In Crime’ at Readings Bookshop, Port Melbourne, and the topic is ‘The Rise of the Environmental Thriller’. It would be lovely to see you there and hear your views. Free event.
We will discuss the depiction of environmental themes by fiction authors over the last 20 years, moving through John Grisham’s The Pelican Brief and Michael Crichton’s State of Fear, through to more recent novels such as Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake / Year of The Flood and Ian McEwan’s Solar. We will ask if the rise of the environmental thriller marks a change in focus in the general population, and discuss the research done to ensure the fiction rings true. A timely debate, considering how Melbourne voted in the recent Federal Election.
